The One Key to Spiritual Power and Authority

Worship-God-Christian-BackgroundLooking for spiritual power? Looking for the power to change lives, bring revival to nations and effect a generation?

With all the church services going on in every town and city around the world, why aren’t we making an impact? With all the conferences, all the prayer meetings, all the prophetic roundtables: why aren’t we changing the world? Don’t get me wrong – I think all of these things are good. But the world will not be changed by church services, roundtables, summit meetings or conferences.

The absolute, bedrock TRUTH about spiritual power is this:

LOVE: verb; the action of loving.

We can try to drum spiritual power up. We can try to pray it up, try to believe it into being, try to do “spiritual calisthenics” until we are built up enough, holy enough, or have enough authority. Nothing will do the trick. Nothing — believe me.

God says that spiritual power is contained in Love. Not physical attraction; not emotional experience – we’re talking about the kind of Love that will lay itself down for another. The kind of Love that Jesus gave for us.

The truth about spiritual power is:

You can prophesy, heal the sick, raise the dead, but without Love it is nothing.

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”

I Corinthians 13:1, 2

Our power is not in words or deeds or “getting something from God”; our power is in Love.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part… And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:8,9 & 13

The truth about spiritual power is:

  •  We will be MORE anointed and effective in our ministry, in our warfare, in our prayer life and in our daily walk among our fellow men when we do everything in Love for Jesus — and in Love for others.
  •  God is not talking about a militant “love” that will try to beat someone else into spiritual submission: that’s NOT love! He’s talking about a warm, sincere, heartfelt love that will lay itself down.
  •  This love is not about personality or gifting – we’re ALL called to this real, loving love.

Love is the last word. The Bible is very clear: LOVE never fails! Love is where we’ll find our breakthrough: Love is the only place that we will find the spiritual power that we are looking for. If we’ll leave our insecurities, our pet peeves, our religious counterfeits, the efforts of our flesh, if we’ll leave them behind and begin walking together — in love – then we can begin. Love will change the world.
