We are entering the time of Passover. In this special season, a doorway to commanded blessing, God promises in His word to pour out seven specific and very powerful blessings. When we honor and observe God’s commandments, we also reap God’s blessings. But we must follow the pattern and obey the ordinances of God to see these blessings!
This brings us to one of the central scripture passages describing the work of the founding of the House of Prayer:
“And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to serve Him, to love the name of the LORD, and to worship Him — all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to My covenant — these I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My House of Prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a House of Prayer for all nations” Isaiah 56:6&7.
This passage indicates that foreigners will be brought to the House of Prayer, yes, yet they will be Gentiles who “bind themselves to the Lord”, who keep the Sabbath, and who hold fast to the covenant God made with His people Israel. We are these foreigners! This speaks clearly to me of you and I — Gentiles in this day being brought to the task of establishing the House of Prayer, and at the same time being drawn into the spirit and truth of all that God has set forth for His people throughout time.
In order to escape the last plague in Egypt, God’s people were to apply the blood of a sacrificial lamb on their doorposts and lintel, so that when the angel saw the blood, he would ‘pass over’ their house (Ex. 12:13). This final plague was God’s decisive stroke against the false gods that held God’s people in bondage, and resulted in their deliverance from slavery and release into freedom.
As a memorial, God instructed His people to honor the Passover by eating unleavened bread, performing a solemn observance of the event in remembrance of Him as their deliverer: “And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever” (Ex. 12:14). The Bible tells us that Passover is to be a permanent ordinance… a celebration for all time!
Jesus lived the Passover as our true Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world once and for all! But what’s more, the Apostles observed and taught it. Paul encourages it, and God commands it. If this isn’t enough, in Exodus 23 God promises seven blessings that we are to be heir to as His people through the observance of Passover:
1. God will assign an angel to prepare the way for you. “Behold I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared” (v. 20) and “For My Angel will go before you” (v. 23). — Divine guidance!
2. God will be an enemy to your enemies. “But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries” (v 22). –Divine protection!
3. God will give you all that you need. “So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water” (v. 25). –Divine provision!
4. God will take sickness away from you. “And I will take sickness away from the midst of you” (v. 25). –Divine health!
5. God will bless your fruitfulness. “No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land;” (v. 26). –Divine abundance!
6. God will give you a long life. “I will fulfill the number of your days” (v. 26). –Divine life!
7. God will bring increase and inheritance. “Little by little will I drive them out from before you, until you have increased and you inherit the land. And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand” (v. 30, 31). –Divine birthright!
“For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.” (1 Corinithian 5:7)
Each time we honor the Passover — remembering Christ, our ‘passover’— and follow God’s decree to bring a sacrificial offering to Him during that time, we are tapping into the supernatural flow of these seven blessings.
It is important to note that Jesus Himself observed and kept the Passover. Whenever we partake in Holy Communion, we are acknowledging Jesus’ blood sacrifice – in fact, communion is an act of ‘remembrance’ requested by Jesus of His disciples during the Passover feast that we now call the Last Supper:
“And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people… And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat… And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide [it] among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” (Luke 22:1 – 20)
Because of the blood of Christ, we have a new life – a new beginning. Our past does not define us. Because of our covenant connection, and the blood of our ‘passover,’ Jesus Christ, we are free from sin – and when we observe God’s command to honor this special appointment with Him, we activate His seven supernatural blessings in our lives!
So remember to honor the Lord and keep His appointment – by observing the Feast of Passover. A Passover celebration is a meal. I have compiled and edited a Passover booklet, The Redemption, that contains the text of the service. You can find it here.
If you would like to include a special Passover offering to The Lord in your celebration, Through The Veil Ministries would be grateful. To make a donation to TTV just click on the Through The Veil “hands” image in the sidebar. Your offering will go directly to supporting our effort to establish House of Prayer Centers in Fiji!
Passover begins in the evening of Friday, April 6, 2012, and ends in the evening of Saturday, April 14, 2012
