The Song of the Bride — Free for the World!

I found this beautiful version of Psalm 45 from a new version of the Bible, “The World Bible”, or “Easy-to-Read Translation”. It’s unique in that they have been working with scholars and lay-translators alike, from all around the world, to produce a version of the Bible that will be highly readable, very accurate, and NOT COPYRIGHTED! They saw the need to provide a bible that was reliable, and not encumbered by copyright for the work of ministers and missionaries around the world who are trying to get the Bible into people’s hands — to churches without Bibles, to nations that restrict or prohibit Bibles, and to unreached people groups. Cutting out the expense of copyright brings the cost of printing Bibles down to ink and paper costs. That’s the way it should be, if we want to get the Bible out to the whole world! I think this version is pretty cool, and really beautiful. The best part is that the Word of God is free again! Enjoy!

Psalm 45 The Song of the Bride!

To the Pure and Shining One— A Contemplative Love Song, for Instruction,
By the prophetic singers of Korah’s clan. To the tune of “Lilies.”

¹My heart is on fire, boiling over with passion. Bubbling up within me are these beautiful lyrics as a lovely poem to be sung for the King! Like a river bursting its banks, I’m overflowing with words, as I pour them out into this sacred story!
²You are the most wonderful and winsome of all men. Elegant grace pours out for others through every word You speak. Truly, God has anointed You, His Favored One!
³Now strap on Your lightning-sword of judgment, O Mighty, Majestic Warrior! You are so full of splendor and magnificence as You go out to war!
⁴In Your glory and grandeur go forth in victory! Through Your faithfulness the cause of truth will stand as You defend the poor and defenseless. Awe-inspiring miracles accompany You, leaving everyone dazed and astonished!
⁵Your wounding leave men’s hearts defeated as they fall before You broken.
⁶ Your glory-kingdom endures forever, for the Mighty God has enthroned You to rule with a justice-scepter in Your hand!
⁷You are passionate for righteousness and You hate what is evil. This is why God, Your God, anoints You, more than any other, with His oil of joy— the fragrance of heaven’s gladness!
⁸Your royal priestly robes release the scent of suffering love for your bride, the odor of aromatic incense is upon You! From the pure and shining place such lovely sounds are played for Your pleasure, music that makes You glad.
⁹The daughters of kings, women of honor, are maidens in Your courts. And standing beside You is the beautiful bride-to-be, glistening in Your golden glory.
¹ᴼNow listen, Princess-Bride… Forget about your past. Put behind you every attachment to the familiar— even those who once were close to you!
¹¹For your Royal Bridegroom is ravished by your beauty. Bow in reverence before Him, for He is your Lord!
¹²Wedding gifts pour in from those of great wealth. They shower you with presents from the royal friends of the Bridegroom.
¹³As the Princess-Bride enters the palace, how glorious she appears, within and without— robed with a wedding dress embroidered with pure gold!
¹⁴Lovely and stunning leading the procession with her maids of honor as they come before You, her Bridegroom- King!
¹⁵What a grand entrance! A joyful, glad procession as they enter the palace gates!
¹⁶Your many sons will someday be kings, just like their father! They will sit on royal thrones all around the world!
¹⁷I will make sure the fame of Your Name is honored in every generation as the peoples praise You, giving You thanks forever and ever!
